I probably play Rock Band more than any other game in my library. That said, I put in countless hours on RB1, RB2, Beatles RB, RB Lego along with tons of DC and the AC/DC Pack.
I think a fair assessment of GD: RB would be to compare it to Beatles: Rock Band since it is similar in that its really a hybrid new game/expansion pack of sorts.
Here are the things you can expect from the game -
1. Similar to Beatles: RB, you get pretty comprehensive library of songs in Green Day's lineup. I would say it is more comprehensive than Beatles only because GD doesn't have a huge library of songs vs the Beatles. As a result, you'll find all the hit songs from the band, spanning from their early career to the most recent album. If you like GD, you will be happy with the songlist.
2. On the "Plus" version of GD: RB - you will also get 2 codes - one to download the recent song pack of 6 songs from their 21st century breakdown album and another to allow you to export your tracks to Rock Band 2 so that you can play their songs on RB2, similar to the AC/DC expansion pack released awhile back. If you play RB2 often, I would strongly urge you to consider purchasing this version of GD: RB since you can mix and match songs from your existing library (which, like mine, can expand to as much as songs from RB1, RB2, RB Lego, AD/DC and your existing DLC as well). This is also great since on Beatles: RB you can not export those songs over to RB2 so this alone is a great reason to consider buying the plus version of GD: RB
3. The interface of GD: RB is like a hybrid of RB2 and Beatles RB. It has the color scheme of the standard RB games (Green, Red, Yellow, Blue, Orange buttons - unlike the pastel colors featured in Beatles: RB) but it also incorporates the harmony system featured in Beatles RB which allows you to have up to 3 singers singing in 3 separate vocal tracks. Word is Rock Band 3 will also feature this system, so in many was GD: RB offers an early look at what you might expect in the future.
4. The graphics of GD: RB are decent. More often than not you'll probably be too busy to notice since you'll be glued to the instrument line that you're following at the moment. But I can safely say that the animations and characters are rendered nicely. Similar to Beatles: RB, GD: RB also features the band in different venues and styles depending on when each song was released during the band's career.
5. Like other RB games, GD: RB features a career mode, along with a quickplay mode that allows you to play solo or with other players locally or online on xbox live. After putting in 6 hours yesterday, I noticed no lag or issues with online gameplay. The calibration process is easy, and you can be ready to rock within minutes of loading up the game.
- Bottom line, if you're a rock band fan, you probably bought this game already and chances are you will love it. If you're not familiar with rock band but want to give this game a shot, I think it is a very good choice, especially if you're a big Green Day fan. The good comprehensive setlist is a nice draw, and getting the bonus songs and export code for RB2 is definitely a great reason for getting this particular version of the game.
