This kit is great! It fixed my HANA scaling chip issues (weird colors, flickering). The only modifications you have to make to the XBOX 360 are simply and easy. There are two motherboard standoffs built into the metal tray which the board sits on. After you remove the board you simply use the supplied sandpaper to sand the two stands down by 1mm. This will make them equal in height as the washers used between the large metal plate and the bottom of the motherboard. This makes the motherboard perfectly flat and prevents flexing.
Easy install in this order:
1. Remove faceplate
2. Use included opening tool to pop the 6 tabs holding the grey mesh grills on top and bottom of the console
3. Use opening tool to pop open tabs on the back of the 360 and pry up the 3 tabs under the faceplate. Remove first half of white case.
4. Unclip eject button.
5. Use Torx screw driver to remove the 6 long screws in the now-exposed side of the 360. Other white half now comes free.
6. Lift DVD drive and disconnect SATA and power cables to the drive, set aside.
7. Disconnect fan power cable and remove white fan duct by lifting the part closest to the heatsinks upwards. Lift large rectangular metal tab to release fans.
8. Remove white Ring of Light piece by un-clipping it and unscrew the 3 black torx screws holding the power button board to the console. Pull the board outwards and away from the front of the console to unplug it.
9. Remove 8 small black torx screws on the underside of the motherboard tray to unmount the heat sink clamps.
10. Remove the rest of the gold/bronze torx screws to free the motherboard. Remove the board from the tray.
11. Use a small flat-head screw driver to pry upwards on each corner of the X-clamps under the motherboard to remove them (this can be tricky but you can find a video on youtube to show the exact way to do it)
12. Remove both heat sinks (note their original placement) and clean/purify them with the included liquids. Remove the 4 mounting nuts under each heat sink with pliers and discard.
13. Clean/purify both heat sinks and processors (be sure to clean the entire area of both chips so the foam shims will stick)
14. Remove sticky tape from both foam shims and install (3-sided shim goes over the GPU)Now you're ready to modify the empty metal motherboard tray!
------------
15. Use included sandpaper (or a circular sander) to sand down the two large rounded bubble-like standoffs in the tray (one near the front and one near the back). Sand them down by about 1milimeter until they are the same height as 3 washers stacked next to them.
16. Use a drill to widen the 8 holes used to mount the x-clamps to the motherboard tray (Use a drill bit that is slightly larger than the original size of the holes until you find the one that finally allows the new mounting screws to slide in freely)
17. Sand any metal flashings off of both sides of the motherboard tray after drilling.
18. Slide 8 of the large flat-head screws through the newly-widened holes under the motherboard tray.
19. Put electrical tape over the heads of the screws on the back of the motherboard tray to keep them in place.
20. Slide the new heatsink mounting plate over the 8 screws. Make sure it isn't backwards (the larger thermal pad should sit under the CPU and the smaller under the GPU)
21. Remove blue protective covering on both thermal pads.
22. Place 3 washers over each screw of the 8 screws.
23. Attach the 4 small white thermal putty-like pads to the 4 RAM chips on the underside of the motherboard.
24. Carefully place the motherboard back into the case and over the 8 mounting screws, then place two (2) more washers on top of EACH of the 8 screws sticking through the board.
25. Apply included thermal paste to the top of the CPU and GPU chips and spread evenly.
26. Apply paste to the 4 RAM chips around the GPU as well and place one (1) washer on top of each chip.
27. (Optional) Apply an extra thermal pad (if you have any) to the HANA scaler chip located near the fan outlet (it should say Microsoft HANA on it)
28. Remove the electrical tape on each screw on bottom of the tray one-by-one (dont let the screw fall out or your washers will go everywhere!) and hand-tighten each one into the CPU and GPU heat sinks.
29. Carefully turn the system over and tighten each screw in an X pattern (example: tighten corner 1, corner 3, corner 2 then corner 4 in that order.. do this for both heat sinks until they are secure).
30. Reinstall all gold/bronze motherboard screws as well.
31. Reinstall fan assembly and duct, connect fan power cable.
32. Reconnect DVD drive SATA and Power cables and place the drive back in the console.
33. Reinstall the Ring of Light/power button board to the front of the console. Reinstall white Ring of Light rectangle clip over the power button board. Now for testing!
--------
Before reassembling everything else, plug in the 360's power and video cables and turn it on. If it now works, congrats! If you still have errors/RROD, disconnect the fan cable and let the console cook itself for about 5 minutes (or until it RRODs again) in the horizontal position. Allow to cool WITHOUT MOVING THE CONSOLE for 30 minutes. Reconnect the fan power cable and try again.
--------
Now that the console works:
34. Replace first half of white case shell over the top of the console and flip it over to reinstall the 6 long torx screws.
35. Reinstall eject button.
36. Replace other half of the shell until it clicks in securely together securely.
37. Replace grey mesh grills on top and bottom of case.
38. Replace front face plate.
Enjoy!
