(More customer reviews)This works as advertised and allows you to use a PS3/O.XBOX controller (also a PS2 controller with USB converter in some cases) on your XBOX 360.
Here are a few things that you might be interested to know when deciding on purchasing this product:
- You need a wired XBOX 360 controller to "start up" this converter.
This wired XBOX 360 controller becomes unusable as a second/third/fourth player on your console as long as the XCM Converter is plugged in with a PS3/2/Original XBOX controller connected to it.
The reason for this is because the XCM Converter "borrows" the signature/ID# from the controller for itself, this is why we need to plug it in before our PS3/2/O.XBOX controller.
So what ends up happening? Well, the wired controller you used on start up becomes useless on your particular console as long as your XCM Crossfire is plugged in (assuming you aren't using the converter with the wired 360 controller just for the rapid fire feature). Don't worry though, the controller will return to normal if you unplug the converter.
If that's a little confusing for the readers, here's a little rundown of what happens:
1. Turn on XBOX 360.
2. Plug in XCM CF.
3. Put 360 controller into XCM CF.
4. XCM CF "borrows" the signature/ID# from the 360 controller. At this point you can leave the 360 controller in and enjoy the rapid fire feature, OR you can unplug it and insert your PS3/2/O.XBOX controller into the XCM CF.
At this point, if you're using a non 360 controller in the XCM crossfire, the 360 controller you used on start up will NOT be usable as a player 2/3/4 controller because the XCM CF is already using its ID. I've tested this myself, and I was a little ticked that they failed to mention this is the product description.
Resetting your console and/or unplugging the converter will return your XBOX 360 controller to normal.
- Voice chat IS possible with PS3/2/O.XBOX controllers.
If you buy a XBOX360 compatible wireless headset (UGH, more money!!!) you can sync it up to your console and enjoy voice chat along with your preferred controller.
- There's no input lag or dropped input to my knowledge.
I play SFIV with this all the time and the converter performs well. I can pull off complex combos with this thing.
I haven't noticed any dropped input and I've been using it for a month or so now.
There's a video up on You Tube where they set up a test to see if there's any dropped input or input lag. Search for "XCM Crossfire No Lag" and you should find it. Thanks to those guys who tested it and posted the video!
Overall, the product is good, but there are drawbacks. It's way too expensive for what it does, IMO, especially since it pretty much nulls one of your XBOX 360 controllers while it's in use (not a HUGE problem unless you're playing 4 player games, I suppose). However, if you're like me and you NEED that PS3/2 controller (they're great!) this will get the job done.
