(More customer reviews)I ordered my first Uniclamp kit from this seller not having performed the fix in this fashion before but after having several repaired Xbox's fail on me using the standard bolt method you see described everywhere I decided to try this. Wow does it work! First off, it was nice that an opening tool was included because up until this point I had been using a screwdriver to open the 360. This tool makes all the difference. The Torx screwdrivers that are included are of high quality and permanently replaced another set that I have.
The Uniclamp fix itself went great and really does the job. The plate does a great job of transferring heat to the chassis and away from the GPU. The problem is that the lead-free solder used in Xbox 360's has a tendency to expand and contract over time with the 360 being turned on and off which can cause the solder connections for the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) to break. This is what causes the Red Ring of Death, from my understanding. The old method of just using bolts and washers will not make for a long term fix as you have clamped the heat sinks down but done nothing to lower the internal temperatures of the device. This Uniclamp along with the underside heat sinks (which you use if they are not already on your motherboard), the southbridge clamp and the upgraded included thermal paste help to drop temperatures while accomplishing the fix. I have since ordered quite a few more kits from the seller and all have done their job.
The reviewer above me said the instructions provided by the seller do not include anything for this kit but this is untrue. The pdf has instructions for both kits the seller has available and is very easy to follow. The other reviewer was right though in that if you apply the kit and you still have rrod when you start the 360 up you need to overheat the system to let the solder run again. Basically hook the vent fans up in the back but just leave it propped over the CPU heatsink (the taller one) with your dvd drive in place over the GPU heatsink. Run the system for 30-45 mins then let it cool down for 15 minutes put everything back together and try it. When you disconnect it after the overheat you will notice a ton of heat on the bottom of the chassis which means the clamp is doing it's job as it is transferring properly. Make sure you have a 1/4" drill bit for the chassis as the bolts will need to go through the holes you drill. Other than that he supplies everything you need. Don't skimp on the sanding of the two points in the chassis either as reducing their height will reduce flex on the board and therefore reduce the chances of this happening again.
