The game actually supports up to 4 players, so you'll want 1 pad per person. There are arcade-quality hard pads available, but the Revolution X soft pad is cheap, available through Amazon and a good bet if you want to try the concept out before spending a lot of cash.
The game itself is very simple in concept, but a cool idea and well executed. Dance to the beat, incidentally putting your feet on the right buttons at the right moment. I actually got it as an excuse to exercise, and it's definately aerobic.
In normal mode, too many total misses will end the song and the game is not too polite about your lack of dancing ability, but there's also a training mode if you just want to practice and not worry about how many times you miss. With a good selection of songs and different difficulty levels, it should have great replay value. As a gamer, I think the whole DDR concept is a little flimsy, but as someone who needs an excuse to exercise, this is a hell of a lot more interactive than any workout tape, treadmill or stationary bike would be.
So as a solo game: 3 stars.
As a group game: 4 stars, fun with friends.
As a way to get exersize: 5 stars.
