You need to know:
a) How to disassemble the Xbox 360 (and this will void your warranty)
b) How to disassemble the disk drive (not so hard, four screws to take the metal case off. i had to hot glue the motherboard to the bottom edges of the drive to keep it from dangling without the metal case to secure it)
c) How to install the piece. It was a little tricky for me, but I figured it out after some experimentation and frustration.

Without the clear disc drive lid you wouldn't even be able to see your disc spinning through the clear case.. This piece opens up the whole inside of your console so you can see everything going on inside the disc drive.
