This console has backlight (means that you can play your games in the dark) and takes two double A batteries. However the gb light was released about when the gameboy color was released and they thought that people didn't want a backlit "gameboy pocket". So only 12,000 were sold meaning that these are extremely rare and hard to come by. Unfortunetly they do cost a pretty penny anywhere where they have it, usually ranging from 100-150 dollars.
This console should really only be for an avid collector if you just want to purchase a handheld i would reccogmend a gameboy sp which also has backlight and a clam shell design. However if you are a collector and you see one in stock I WOULD BUY ONE IMMEADIETLY before someone bets you to it. This is a great collectable and a fun system worth the money.

The Gold Game Boy Light was only released in Japan. It's a regular Game Boy that's backlit so you can play it in any light. This will play any regular Game Boy game (meaning it won't play Color or Advance games, just regular monochrome Game Boy games).
