(More customer reviews)The PS3 does not come with a controller charger because one is not needed. The provided USB cable and a free port on the PS3 do the job quite well. However, for additional convenience, as many as a dozen third party chargers are available and the Touchcharge kit is one of the more innovative solutions.
Here are the Touchcharge main features:
+ eliminates the need to physically plug/unplug the controller adding significant convenience to the charging process
= like all dedicated chargers, does not take up USB ports on the PS3
- will charge only one controller at a time
- the 2 supplied adapters allow for up to and no more than 2 controllers, unless you are willing to swap the adapters on and off between controllers
- the charge adapters add bulk to the controller
- conflicts with other devices that can be attached to the controller such as the Sony-made keyboard attachment
As noted above, there is one big positive, the Touchcharge main feature that sets it apart from the crowd but the convenience of not having to plug the controller in and out of the charger is counterbalanced by several small negatives of which the added bulk and the 2-controller limitation are the most significant.
The Touchcharge is not for everyone but those who purchase one while aware of both the positives and the noted shortcomings should be pleased with what they get.

The TouchCharge Kit for PS3 is a new and innovative charging product that allows gamers to wirelessly charge their controllers and eliminate the need for multiple cords and cables. The charging pad can completely charge controllers in under four hours. The kit consists of a charging pad that plugs into a standard outlet and rechargeable battery adapters that fit over the original game controllers’ battery covers. Multiple game controllers can be charged simultaneously by simply setting them on the charging pad. The pad’s base is an engineered non-conductive thermoplastic and the contact strips are corrosion resistant. Embedded into the battery housing, the wire-free technology is based on a set of 4 contact points, which are geometrically configured to ensure constant contact and efficiently deliver low voltage DC power to the battery charging circuit – regardless of the controller orientation on the pad. The TouchCharge Kit aims to enhance the user experience via smart engineering and aesthetic gratification – a true marriage of form and function.
