Horse games are just about the only thing I play, and I have about two dozen of them. This is the ONLY game that I keep playing for years! If you're one who loves to be jockey, then go to GI Jockey 3 or something...
In this game, you are the owner who can buy yearlings at auction or breed your own, then hire trainers and jockeys. You can watch your horse races and bet on them. Winning Post goes on a calendar year, and every December they have Horses/Jockeys/Trainers/Owners/Farms of the Year, etc. There is even a Hall of Fame.
When it's time to retire your horse, only if they were not a successful on the track do they disappear -- "becoming a riding horse." Otherwise you may retire them as breeding stock, keeping them for yourself or selling them to a farm that is willing to pay big bucks. There's a long list of studs you may breed your mares to, with consultation on your choices. It is so exciting the next season when the foals are born, and even more so when they win their first race.
If you're good, one of your horses will go on to the Grand Prix in France, racing against 11 other horses from around the world!
This game is challenging without being disappointing or difficult.
If my house burned down or I somehow lost this game and my Sega Saturn, I would go online and replace both, just to play this game. It is truly worth every penny! I pray that Koei releases Winning Post 7 in English.
