This Hori Real Arcade Pro 2 SA is a fantastic piece of gaming hardware, there is no denying that. It's the perfect size and weight to sit comfortably on your lap while you play your fighting games. All buttons are Sanwa brand and are fully replaceable (snap in) without need for soldering. The stick is a ball-top JLF-TP-8YT-SK Sanwa as well. Full Turbo and Auto-Fire for each button, as well as Slo-mo function. Start and Select buttons as well, as expected. This was released in Japan only, but as with all Hori fighting sticks it is completely compatible with US PlayStations as well. Basically, this stick will last you forever, as these parts are the highest quality made and if anything does go wrong, easily replaceable for relatively cheap. As an added bonus, you can get a PS2 to PS3 converter (not included) which allows you to use this stick on your PlayStation 3. The only issue would be the lack of the Home button that is standard on the new PS3 controllers. This is a small price to pay though, considering the quality of the stick. The cord is a bit short (~6-7ft) and I could not get it to work when adding an extension. You'll need to be sitting relatively close to your PS2 as a result.
The only issue you may run in to, unrelated to the hardware functionality itself, is if you actually need this. If you've gotten hyped up by watching videos of some of the best players in the world like Daigo and Justin Wong tearing through opponents, you obviously know that all the pros use sticks in order to pull off combos that require tenths of a second to execute. The question is whether or not owning this stick will make you better. Unfortunately, unless you're used to it and have spent hours in the arcades, the answer is probably not. If you've grown up using a PS or D-Pad controller when playing games like Street Fighter, getting used to the arcade stick is like starting all over from scratch. The movements of your hands and fingers are totally different and obviously take a long, long time to get used to. If you're willing to commit to learning and take a ton of losses in the meantime, it may be worth it. If you're a casual player though, and don't have aspirations of competing at EVO or SBO, it may be frustrating to start using the HRAP (Hori Real Arcade Pro). My advice would be to get good enough using the regular controllers that you're dominating casual players with ease, then consider buying a HRAP. At that point you may be committed enough that you want advance to an even higher level and compete against the best, and a HRAP is the next logical step. If you have the money, the HRAP with authentic arcade buttons and sticks is the way to go. If not, start with a lower tier stick, see if you like the feel and get used to it, then consider the upgrade. Chances are that if you get good enough with a lower grade arcade stick you'll wear the buttons out anyways and realize you need one that will last much longer.
